K3 launches SYSPRO academy to plug skills gap

Following the success of the retail based K3 Academy, K3 Syspro has launched a sister academy in Salford aimed at plugging the UK’s technology skills gap and attracting people to a career in software within the manufacturing and distribution sector.

K3 Syspro, which provides Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications to businesses throughout the UK and Europe, has announced the year-long programme which has been set up and funded independently. The academy is open to graduates from all disciplines, as well as people who have left education or are looking for a change of career path. And unlike many academy schemes that exist in the UK, the K3 Syspro Academy will result in full time positions with the company for successful graduates.

K3 Syspro Managing Director Cathie Hall explained the move: “Something that every industry is facing is a lack of skills and many young people often bemoan the lack of options available to them when it comes to gaining real life work experience. The K3 Academy solves both issues. It allows us to give young people an exciting introduction to business systems consultancy and the SYSPRO ERP product itself, while ensuring that we always have the highest quality of skills and experience in our business for the long term.

The UK is facing a skills crisis in the IT sector, with the Recruitment and Employment Confederation reporting the sharpest growth in demand for IT staff in August this year, since 1998. The

K3 Syspro Academy aims to plug this gap by teaching young people data management and support, IT project management, customer service, marketing and more, with extensive SYSPRO and Microsoft product training thrown in. Each academy student will be given a mentor to assess and monitor performance while they are on the course, as well as a ‘buddy system’ to give added informal support, experience and insights. Upon completion of the course, trainees will be awarded full SYSPRO certification, further advanced training and the opportunity to start a career with the established 35-year-old business.

Cathie continued: “At K3 Syspro, we pride ourselves on the skills and experience of our team. We’ve amassed over 600 SYSPRO site implementations and have more than 450 customers in the UK. By pairing students up with our experienced team, we can create a shared knowledge base and future proof our business for many years to come, while creating real job opportunities for young people in the UK and contributing to the overall economy.

K3 Syspro has confirmed that it is looking to recruit two students to the Academy in January 2015, a further two in July 2015 and two more in September 2015 for the academy pilot.
