Stonewoods Ltd, one of London’s biggest providers of antique
fireplaces, stoves and woodburners, have reacted to a government warning on the
price of rising energy bills on Britain’s poor.
Government advisers are warning that poor families in the UK
are increasingly falling into fuel poverty as they don’t have enough money to
heat their homes on the back of rising energy bills.
The warning comes after the official climate change adviser
for the Government, Committee on Climate Change, released a report predicting
that clean energy subsidies could add an additional 36p a day to household
bills by 2030, concluding that many more households will need financial support
with clean heating and insulation.
A spokesman for the government also says that more
investment and support for energy efficiency is the most effective way to
reduce bills in the long term, the BBC reports.
But while bills this year are estimated to by £90 lower than
they otherwise would have been, the CCC have claimed that George Osborne,
government chancellor, slashed energy efficiency investments down to £800m from
£1.4bn.
Ed Matthew of The Energy Bill Revolution, a fuel poverty
campaign, said: “The situation is crazy. Insulation offers by far better value
for money than road-building, yet we have just seen £100bn announced for
infrastructure without a penny for insulation. We can’t load the whole cost of
insulation on to bills – many people just can’t afford it.”
The report by the CCC shows that energy bills over the past
decade rose by £490, with the majority of that increase coming as a result of a
hike in the price of gas.
Stonewoods sell fireplaces and often share their thoughts on
relevant industry news. They believe that more could be done to help people to
heat their homes, including installing high efficiency gas fires.
A spokesman for the company said: “Heating your home is
getting more and more expensive with the price of gas steadily rising but there’s
a lot that can be done to alleviate the problem and make paying bills less
difficult. One of the most common ways to reduce the cost of bills is to
install a high efficiency gas fire. With a high efficiency fire you could save
up to 55% on gas bills while also providing your home with 45% more heat.
“More financial support so that people can invest in things
like high efficiency gas fires and insulation is pivotal with gas prices on a
continual increase.”
Stonewoods sell a number of gas fires that could help you to
save money on your bills, including high efficiency fires. They’re based in
London and have a large selection of quality but affordable options available.
