Hardy Services, a provider of engineering solutions in the
North West, have commented on the news that the government has published its
plan to update the National Infrastructure Plan.
The British government is set to pledge £2.3 billion to the
plan, supporting in excess of 1,400 different flood defence projects.
Included in the flood defence programme, which will run for
6 years, is £15.5 million for Somserset defences, £17 million designated for
Yalding and Tonbridge in Kent, £57 million to go towards the Oxford flood
alleviation scheme and £80 million for the Humber estuary.
The National Infrastructure Plan was officially introduced
earlier in the month at the Institution of Civil Engineers, London. The
document is 140 pages in length and details public and private investment worth
£460 billion, 2.3 billion of which will go towards flood defence.
Chief executive of Laing O’Rourke, a multinational
construction company, said: “Long-term visibility of the government’s approach
to infrastructure is a crucial factor in our own ability to plan for the
future. The National Infrastructure Plan, and the detailed project pipeline,
gives us the confidence to invest and ensure we have the highly skilled
workforce to deliver the roads, rail and power networks that this country
needs.”
Commercial secretary to the Treasury, Lord Deighton, said:
“The fifth National Infrastructure Plan shows that the government is delivering
on infrastructure, with a long term strategy to make sure the UK tackles
decades of underinvestment and gives us the infrastructure we need to compete
in the 21st century.”

in engineering and support contracting. They often share their thoughts on
industry related news.
A representative for Hardy Services said: “With severe
weather seemingly becoming a more common occurrence, the UK has struggled in
recent years with flooding, especially in Southern regions.
“It’s great to see that the government is taking this
seriously and has put aside a decent chunk of the National Infrastructure Plan
for flood defence projects, protecting family homes and business owners from
the risk of flooding.”
