A Passage Across India

New Year's resolution- a 3,500km Rickshaw Run for best friends who've never even been on holiday together

Best friends, Stuart Brown and Scott Heyburn are planning the ultimate New Year's resolution, to travel 3,500km across India in a rickshaw to raise money for Cancer UK and Parkinson's UK, beginning on the 1st of January 2015. They will start their challenge in the city of Cochin, in the south of India, and the finish line will be in Jaisalmer in the North. The pair estimate the challenge will take 2 weeks to complete.

Stuart and Scott have set themselves the challenge to "give back" to two charities that have recently supported their families. Stuart (43) an Operations Manager at independent school catering company, Holroyd Howe, is raising money for Cancer Research UK after his mother underwent successful treatment for Lymphoma. Scott (43) who works in his family business, TRP Glazing, is raising money for Parkinson's UK after his father was recently diagnosed with the disease. Whilst the pair, who both live in Bognor Regis, have been friends for over 30 years, they have never spent a holiday together. So travelling in the lowest form of transport across India could challenge body and soul.

A once state-of-the-art three-wheeled Bajaj auto-rickshaw awaits both Scott & Stuart. Nothing in the design of these noisy tripods is made with comfort, safety or reliability in mind. They put the occupant right at the bottom of the Indian road hierarchy (giving a perfect opportunity to see India from the gutter). It is possibly the least suitable vehicle on the planet for covering the entire subcontinent in two weeks. They will find their own route from A to B, and not be using technology to assist; traditional maps only.

The pair are hoping that their challenge will raise both money and awareness for their chosen charities across the festive season. The public can follow their challenge on Spirit FM who will be broadcasting daily updates.
