Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate Appoints Prestigious Chef
Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate, near St Ives, is pleased to announce the appointment of David Sharland as their new Food and Kitchen Development Manager.
David has joinedCarbis Bay Hotel & Estatehaving previously been Executive Chef leading to Operations Director at The Rick Stein Group based in Padstow.
He will now oversee Carbis Bay's two restaurants - the award-winning Sands Restaurant and the new Beach Club & Spa Restaurant, whilst developing the food offering across the entire Estate, which continues to benefit from a multi-million pound investment programme from father and son owners, Malcolm and Stephen Baker.
Looking to the future, he will be advising and assisting with the exciting new Carbis Bay Beach Regeneration Project, within which are foreseen a restaurant, function suite and cookery school.
With his roots in the West Country, David studied at Exeter Catering College, before launching his career in London, working for high profile hotels such as the Savoy Hotel, where he was the first chef at the Savoy Grill to achieve two Rosettes.
Being the youngest head chef in the history of the Savoy, he was awarded the Acorn Award for young achievement in hospitality before gaining further executive and consultancy experience at various other hotels and restaurants - including Hyde Park Hotel, Harrington Hall Hotel, the Atlantic Bar and Grill, the Vineyard, The Oxo Tower and Harvey Nichols, being instrumental in opening their Edinburgh and Manchester restaurants.
Gaining experience from the revered restaurateur, Oliver Peyton, David progressed from hotels to restaurants, achieving a wealth of experience and skills throughout his career - he was runner up at the People's Choice Award by the Craft Guild of Chefs in 2011.
David is experienced in all aspects of the catering business - from board level to day to day operations, from encouraging apprentices through to initiating the Adopt a School programme in Cornwall, being one of only a few members of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts in the county.
David is thrilled to be joining the team at Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate, saying:
"Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate already has an excellent reputation for providing a high standard dining experience, so I am delighted to be a part of and leading the team. The different types of food offerings here at the Hotel & Estate mean we can offer guests a range of different styles, flavours, tastes and experiences, and I am really looking forward to bringing my ideas to the team."
David continued, "The dramatic beachside location offers a spectacular outlook across one of the world's most beautiful bays, whilst providing the ultimate setting to enjoy food with a view. The two very different restaurants, open throughout the year to both visitors and guests, are in a breath-taking setting above the hotel's own Blue Flag beach. The potential is huge and I'm looking forward to developing a new recipe for success!"
Stephen Baker, owner of the Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate is pleased to appoint David to lead the culinary team, saying:
"David's appointment marks the start of a new phase of dining at the Estate. We recently received two 5* Food Hygiene ratings for our restaurants as well as being awarded the ‘Best Hotel Restaurant of the Year' at the Cornwall Life Food and Drink awards. With the addition of our new Club Restaurant on the beach, we have already begun the move towards creating new and exciting experiences for everyone to enjoy - David will be developing that even further and his creativity and flare will bring a new dimension to Carbis Bay."
