2015 seems
to be already a year of innovative ideas and imagination as leading office furniture,
storage and chair supplier Relax takes a look at how offices could look over
the next 12 months.
First
glimpses of the new extraordinary designs of the office furniture of the future
were unveiled last July. Netherlands-based architectural firm RAAAF, together
with artist Barbara Visser, showed us a glimpse of what could be around the
corner, revolutionising the style and concept of the typical office layout. Consisting
of continuous ‘rock-like’ structures that were cleverly designed with
multi-faceted sides, complete with inclines and undulations, angles and
crevices, the concept saw the removal of desks and seating from the office
workspace.
Workers
instead could stand, sit or lean with one another, creating a more open and
integrating environment, instead of facing the isolation of solitary cubicles
that have been the norm for many workplaces over the last century. “This is a
first step towards a future in which standing at work is the new norm,"
RAAAF said of the design. "A lifelong health where we are both physically
and mentally active."
Currently a
prototype of the office space is being tested in Amsterdam and designers are
‘testing the room’s advantages’ in a bid to further develop the innovative
measures that have been injected into this outstanding project. This spring
will see the results from the tests being made public but in addition, Ronald
Rietveld of RAAAF had this to say:
"What
seems to be a result is that after a day of working, people are more active in
their head, but more tired in their body. And that's actually what it's all
about—the main goal is to actually put more pressure on your legs during the
day, and take different positions. That's what sitting is not doing."
West
Midlands-based Relax Office Furniture reacts regularly to news, studies and
reports from their industry. A company spokesperson believes that such examples
of office layouts could certainly work for many sectors and congratulates the
artist and architecture firm for their innovative look at reinventing the
typical office environment:
“It is
without a doubt, a terrific concept, adding a futuristic element to a working
environment that purposefully draws individuals to work together in a more
relaxed space. However, we will know more once the results of testing are
released. It is a bold representation of what could lie in regards to future
office layouts and we look forward to seeing more ideas like this being displayed.”
