Britain’s Boxing Day Bonanza as almost £3bn is spent by UK and international shoppers

Results are in following a large consumer survey that was carried out over the Christmas and New Year as leading home shopping company Betterware respond to rise in their online activity.

The popular comparison website MoneySupermarket.com undertook the research which found that shoppers looking for the Boxing Day deals were planning to spend around £2.8bn - £2.9bn and that would simply be on the first day of sales alone. The even that was being billed as the “biggest and busiest ever” online Bank Holiday for retailers, generating almost half a billion pounds by Market Analysis company Experian and showed the true power of online shopping and how it has evolved so immensely over the last few years.

The results show that indeed, Boxing Day 2014 was “Pleasantly Robust” by high-street retailers but many predictions were for a strong showing as bargain hunters would make their way out to the shops and stores on the day after Boxing Day, the 27th Dec. In a statement from the deputy CEO of the New West End Company, representing more than 600 retailers across the West End, Jace Tyrrell said Oxford Street was lined with "eager" bargain-hunters this morning.

"It was a good Boxing Day, but I think today and tomorrow will be even stronger," he said. "We've had a lot of international visitors - I'd say three quarters of the street crowds were overseas tourists."

One of the most established home shopping companies operating in Britain today, Betterware, too experienced a rise in sales during the run up to Boxing Day and over the course leading up to the New Year. Regularly responding to news and research within their industry, the company believes that annual sales such as Boxing Day and the January Sales will continue to improve, especially where online purchases are concerned:

“Shopping online provides such great ease of use for customers, for whom time may be extremely limited or store opening times may not fit in with their schedules. Boxing Day sales did go through the roof this Christmas and New Year and with more sales occurring throughout January, it looks as though the retail and home shopping sectors will experience yet another boom.

“As a well-known household name, it isn’t uncommon to discover great savings throughout the year on our website; however our aim has always been to provide quality products at competitive prices, so we incorporate unmissable deals to remain competitive. We look forward to what 2015 will bring.”
