House prices in the UK still rising, index figures suggest – Best Van and Man comment

Best Van and Man, leading London-based removal and storage experts, have commented on the news that house prices in the UK are up 7.8% on figures recorded in January 2014.

According to the home.co.uk, a popular property search company, prices are rising faster than anticipated in many area of the UK, with price discounting also recorded at the lowest level in four years.

The asking price index shows that the price of the average home in England and Wales currently sits at almost 8% higher than it was this time last year. They also found that prices in Greater London have increased 0.6% while value in the North East went up 0.4% in the last month.

The findings will excite many as it hints at the positive growth recorded throughout 2014 continuing in 2015, with supply still trailing behind housing demand in almost all areas of the country.

However, in central London, there was a 9% dip in prices in the last 12 months despite the fact that the property market saw 64% more flats put on sale.

Home.co.uk Director, Doug Shepherd, said: “Optimism is still riding high in the rest of the country, but it comes as a shock to many to learn that prices are crumbling in the most expensive streets in London. My cab drivers certainly didn’t know of this fact during a recent trip to the capital.

“We are keen to track these price movements as they may soon have a knock-on effect for the rest of Greater London and, later, the Home Counties. Prices in Central London went up too far, too fast during 2012-13. The same fate then befell the rest of London last year. Now many home buyers and investors are paying the price of their overenthusiasm.”

But while the sales market slows in London, Best Van and Man, a removal company who often comment on relevant news and research, believe the rental sector will pick up the slack.

A representative for the company explained: “Even if less people are buying at the moment in London, it certainly hasn’t affected our work as we don’t deal strictly with homeowners. Many of our clients are living in rented accommodation which meant that we remained busy throughout 2014.

“We expect that many movers feel the same way and are bracing for another busy year of home, flat and office moves in the London area, regardless of any potential slowing in the rate of house sales.

“If you’re in the London area and need help getting your belongings from point A to point B, our professional and friendly drivers are always on hand to help.”
