UK Work Related Accident Figures Revealed, Zen Law Solicitors Responds

Leading Manchester personal Injury firm, Zen Law Solicitors, have commented on the recent reports of work related incidents within the UK, with a report from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Liberal Democrats detailing problems throughout the country.

The HSE report determined that approximately 57,000 people within Wales were made sick due to work in 2014, with 156 employees falling sick or ending up in a work related accident every day in 2013 and 2014.

Back pain, arthritis, anxiety and stress are some of the leading conditions, with the education, health, social work and defence sectors containing the highest rates of work related sickness.

For work related accidents, manufacturing, construction, transport and agriculture industries were reported as the worst.

In Scotland, figures from the Scottish Health Board have revealed that work related injuries have been in the tens of thousands over the last few years within the NHS, with 35,372 injuries reported between 2011 and 2013.

Some of the reported injuries within the NHS include electrical shocks, crushing injuries, falling objects, scratches, infections, slips, trips and falls.

Jim Hume, the health spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats said, ‘There is never an excuse to cut corners and health boards must do everything within their power to ensure staff are appropriately trained to prevent accidents. Injuries come at great cost to the running of our hospitals, but more importantly they can cost lives. Ministers must work with health boards to reduce these injuries.’

Often commenting on industry news, a spokesperson for Zen Law Solicitors said, ‘The numbers for injuries in work across the country are shocking, but show just why personal injury firms like our own need to be in place. Sickness and accidents in work can be avoided, but when conditions aren’t right, or one person isn’t following the health and safety rules, accidents will happen, and it typically happens to the person who sticks to the rules.

For anyone injured in work, it can be daunting to know what to do next, sometimes the accident may make you unable to return to work. At Zen Law Solicitors we deal with cases related to work accidents on a daily basis, and we can help the client make a claim so they can get back some of what they lost through the tragic ordeal.’
