Plans for a £7.3 million redevelopment project in the centre of Stafford are taking shape with the release of new images of the proposed scheme that's been designed to meet local housing needs.

Planning applications have already been submitted by architects Pozzonion behalf of Stafford and Rural Homes that cover the demolition of 54 flats on Hesketh Road and for 62 attractive, modern, energy-efficient apartments to replace them.

The latest artist's impressions of the proposed development illustrate how the project will dramatically transform the neighbourhood into an area where people feel proud to live.

Karen Armitage, SARH Chief Executive, commented: "The new images look stunning and give the community a real taste of what's to come.

"The new development will offer a range of affordable rental options for local people, as well as making a stunning improvement to the appearance of a main route into the town centre."

The scheme is part of a wider, £40 million SARH programme to regenerate key neighbourhoods in Staffordshire and build over 300 new homes, and it has been supported with funding from the Housing and Communities Agency (HCA).

In Hesketh Road, the existing flats no longer meet the housing needs of the community, or modern design standards. A comprehensive support package is in place for SARH customers affected by the redevelopment as the project starts to take shape.

"In addition to meeting local housing needs, this latest redevelopment scheme will also provide a major boost to the local economy through the creation of new jobs, new training opportunities and the use of local suppliers," Karen added.

Whilst Pozzoni have been appointed as architects for the scheme, a primary contractor is expected to be announced shortly.
