York graphic designer chosen to rebrand ice cream producer's packaging
A Vale of York ice cream manufacturer has teamed up with a York graphic designer to undertake its first packaging rebrand forseven years.
Lesley Buxton, director of the Acaster Malbis based Yorvale asked local graphic designer, Francesca Cann from Cann Creative to refresh the packaging for the 25 year old ice cream brand.
For the rebrand, Ms Cann has introduced pastel colours to depict the 100% natural element of Yorvale traditional dairy ice cream. Each flavour variant is illustrated with relevant hand-drawn patterns that reflect an artisan and home-made quality.
Mrs Buxton said the rebranding manages to retain the look and feel of the original brand, but has added a contemporary twist to refresh it.
"We are delighted with Francesca's redesign and are confident that it will stand out from other ice cream brands and be well received by customers."
Ms Cann, who trained in graphic design at York College, said: "It's always a pleasure to design packaging for amazing products like Yorvale that you love and know are the best quality.
"It's great working with Yorvale as a local brand that I have grown up with."
Ms Cann has 13 years' experience in packaging design for artisan food producers throughout Yorkshire.
Her portfolio includes Yorkshire Crisps, Grandma Wilds, Loves Hair and Beauty, Evolve Hairdressing and Hayloft Foods. Working alongside her husband, she set up her own design and illustration company, Cann Creative, in April 2014.
Cann Creative is currently working with Mamuska!, a London-based Polish restaurant, North West based The Gift of Oil and Leeds-based Lauden Chocolates.
Lesley and Ian Buxton diversified their dairy farm business into ice cream manufacturing in 1989. Their award-winning ice cream is now sold in farm shops, visitor attractions, independent retailers and supermarkets throughout Yorkshire.
