BEAT THE RAIL COMPANIES PRICING SYSTEM.
‘Give passengers a break' that's the plea from the TSSA transport union after research by independent rail expert Barry Doe. Since privatisation a peak walk -on return ticket from Bristol [First Great Western] cost £57 compared with today's £197, an increase of 246%. A spokesman for the Rail Delivery Group, representing Network Rail claimed that deliberately focusing on the most expensive fares is misleading.
Joe Sikking of raileasy.co.uk, an online train booking site said the way to beat these whopping increases is by seeking out strategies such as split ticketing that the rail companies hide from the travelling public. Split ticketingworks by amalgamating cheaper separate tickets for a typical journey.
