Fabulous Queens Arms scoops Silver at the South West Tourism Awards for best B& B and Guest Accommodation of the Year
An eighteenth century country inn nestling in the rolling hills of the Dorset and Somerset borders has received a Silver Award at the prestigious South West Tourism Excellence Awards. The Queens Arms at Corton Denham won the Silver award for B&B and Guest Accommodation of the Year, announced at a glittering black tie ceremony held on the Grand Pier at Weston super Mare on 12 February 2015.
Surrounded by stunning countryside, the late 18th Century "destination" pub with rooms offers a chic rural getaway for those in search of something special. The Queens' is the ideal place to meet friends or while away time reading the papers whilst tucking into one of their famous pork pies and a pint of award winning real ale in front of a roaring open fire. The Queens Arms offers eight luxurious ensuite coach house rooms with underfloor heating, down duvets, brass and sleigh beds, iPod docks and immaculate wet rooms. All rooms boast lovely views over the village and surrounding countryside and have received an AA 5 star Gold Inn rating and 4 star silver accolade Visit Britain award.
In a highly competitive category the judges commented, "A high class establishment that sets the bar high for itself, a great stay experience."
Owners Gordon and Jeanette Reid took over The Queens Arms just five years ago, and have completely transformed it with an inspired and creative approach, including the introduction of a function room that regularly acts as a cinema during the Autumn and Winter months, a dedication to sourcing food from West Country suppliers as well as local villagers and gamekeepers plus a warm welcome that extends to walkers with muddy boots, enthusiastic cyclists and keen dog walkers looking for somewhere accepting of a well behaved and thirsty pooch.
Jeanette Reid said, "We are proud to have received this prestigious Silver Award and hope that anyone who hasn't visited us yet will come and find us and experience the Queens for themselves. We are just north of Sherborne and only about 15 minutes from the A303 or the A30."
No stranger to awards for excellence, in the last couple of years The Queens Arms has received Taste of Somerset Best Pub 2013; a double AA Rosette for its food offering; CAMRA 2012 Cider Pub of the Year and National Best Freehouse for 2012.
In a friendly lounge style interior offering up rug-strewn flagstones and bare boards, pew benches, deep sofas and crackling fire, guests can choose from an impressive and varied list of drinks: beers, ciders, spirits and wines, all handpicked to offer guests the opportunity to try some of the finest drinks available from around the world. In the cosy dining room and on the terrace in summer, robust British dishes are distinguished by fresh ingredients from local suppliers, many ingredients coming from the pub's own pigs and hens.
The Queens Arms was also awarded Silver from the South West Tourism Awards for Best Tourism Pub.
