To mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War London based artist Julian Hanford plans to create an epic art installation of 6 million domino tiles - FALL.
The gigantic block which is set to break the world record will measure bigger than the halls at Alexandra Palace, will be set up by world champion stunt domino master Robin Weijers and his team.
FALL seeks to communicate the extraordinary scale of the mass destruction of Gypsies, Poles, Communists, Homosexuals, Russians, the mentally ill and, of course the six million Jews systematically murdered.
To deliver this project FALL needs to raise £1.58m and will be crowdfunded on platform Phundee 26thFebruary.
As part of the campaign, Julian Hanford has recorded a new version of ‘Mad World' by Tears for Fears featuring 13 year old singer, Aurelia Hanford, which will be released on 26thFebruary, simultaneously with the crowdfunding campaign.
Artist Julian Hanford said:"This work has more poignancy than ever before as the last generation of survivors are almost all gone, and it is important to connect that last generation with the new. I'm not Jewish but the point is I'm a human being and this is about 6 million plus human beings murdered due to racial intolerance and ideological prejudice. That is why it's vital to raise the extra cash via crowdfunding Phundee to spread the message."
Ashon Spooner CEO at Phundee said‘'FALL' could be one of the most important Crowdfunding campaigns reframing the Holocaust for anew generation. Our mission at Phundee is to help empower the artist especially in these tough economic times. We want to help democratise art and allow more artists to succeed in producing art, as we think it makes the world a better place.'
Notes to Editors
FALL is an installation event due to take place in November/December in Berlin to help reframe the Holocaust and bring it back to the consciousness of contemporary audiences. FALL seeks to communicate the extraordinary scale of the destruction of Gypsies, Poles, Communists, Homosexuals, Russians, the mentally ill and, of course the six million Jews systematically murdered.
For 6 days they stand, marking the 6 years of the Second World War, between 1939 - 1945.
At noon on the 6th day, the event will be streamed live worldwide. A Holocaust survivor will push the first tile, setting off the chain reaction of dominoes which will topple row after row. The FALL of tiles will take 12 hours from start to finish. After the event Hanford plans to send every school in the country a domino with an education pack.
The current world record is 4,491,863.
Prior to the toppling Andre Singer's documentary ‘Night will Fall' will be shown first, which was recently featured on Channel 4 television. The 1945 footage is based on combat cameramen and news footage, the original footage had participation by Alfred Hitchcock.
The title of the film was derived from a line of narration in the 1945 documentary: "Unless the world learns the lesson these pictures teach, night will fall.
