Books by the Beach - Literary Beer Competition

Books by the Beach - Literary Beer Competition

Following the success of the inaugural Scarborough literary festival last year, Books by the Beach co-directors Heather French and Peter Guttridge are delighted to be working in partnership and raising a glass with Wold Top Brewery once again in 2015.

"Last year Wold Top brewed us a special ‘Best Seller' beer and it was the favourite tipple of many festival goers" says Heather. "This year we've decided to go one step further and ask the public to come up with a name for this year's extra special brew. Books and beer are a perfect combination!" So what's it all about?

Wold Top owner Gill Mellor and Heather have decided to let avid readers and beer drinkers create a new name for a literary light ale...

"My example is ‘Ale of Two Cities' but I know book lovers will come up with something much more original" Heather quips. "So get those creative juices flowing".

The competition is open to 18 year olds and over and will be judged by Gill and Heather. The winner will be rewarded with a special presentation pack of their own named beer and their creation will be the special brew served during the festival and branded on Books by the Beach bottles given to visiting authors. A perfect souvenir!

In addition the lucky winner will also receive two complimentary tickets to see Omid Djalili at the Spa Theatre, Scarborough on Friday 17th April.

Please e mail your suggestion together with your name and contact number toheather@booksbythebeach.co.ukif you'd like the opportunity to enter this competition.

The closing date is Friday 6thMarch.

The winning entry will be announced on the Wold Top Brewery website before the end of March.

Farm based Wold Top Brewery is situated only 12 miles away from Scarborough. It brews traditional real ale from home and Wolds grown malting barley, the finest hops and chalk-filtered water from the farm's own borehole. 6. Detailed tasting notes
    Wold Gold 4.8%

A blonde, continental style beer. A heady mix of Wold grown Barley, Wheat and Cara malt hopped with Goldings and Styrian hops give the beer its soft, fruity flavour with a hint of spice. Recent winner of a coveted 3 Star Gold from the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards 2013. Wold Gold is great with Spicy foods and strong flavours and is particularly good with Thai and Indian cuisine.

Angler's Reward 4%

A refreshing golden pale ale with a fruity bitterness & lingering aftertaste. Certainly a beer to help create those "one that got away" stories! Brewed with Wolds grown malts and hopped with the fruity Cascade and Goldings hops. Angler's Reward is good with fish and chips and most fish, especially salmon.
