A 56-acre plot of land close to the Silicon Valley headquarters will become the Facebook Town with several years of construction work planned, and £262 million spent to secure the land. Offices, housing, shops and a hotel are planned for the town making it a place for Facebook employees to connect, along with people in the nearby area.

Facebook plan to stray away from the town being another private office complex, with John Tenanes saying ‘We feel you just can’t build a corporate campus, it has to be integrated into the community.’

The purchase of the site comes in light of the recent news of Facebook looking to expand its online plans after record revenues being revealed in a report for 2014.

The project will bridge the technology industry with outsiders, and with more than 7,000 local residents working for the company, the project is eagerly anticipated. A total of 10,000 people work for the company worldwide, and the new land should help with the company’s plans to grow.
