Victoria’s Secret Lingerie Brand under Fire for Not Offering Plus-Size Lingerie, Lux Lingerie Responds
Victoria’s Secret Lingerie Brand under Fire for Not Offering Plus-Size Lingerie, Lux Lingerie Responds

Women’s UK lingerie company, Lux Lingerie, have recently commented on the change.org petitions which have been signed by thousands of women to demand plus-size lingerie from Victoria’s Secret, after a perfect body campaign stirred controversy.

The change.org petitions have been frequent and widely supported since the ‘Perfect Body’ campaign by Victoria’s Secret was revealed, showcasing a row of thin women in the company’s underwear range, with the slogan, ‘The Perfect “Body”. Perfect Fit. Perfect Comfort. Perfectly Soft.’

The petitions universally demand the company to stock sizes above extra-large, with one petition called’ Victoria’s Secret:  Add Plus-Sizes to Your Product Lines,’ and another called ‘A Body for Every Body... Prove you mean it, Victoria’s Secret!’ are the two petitions started up to demand the increase in sizes.

The former petition was set up by Dana Drew, who said, ‘I love Victoria’s Secret so much that I even have their credit card. My money and my credit card are good enough for them, but the fact that I can only buy items like perfume, lotion, and body spray sends the message that my body is not.’

The advert also caused controversy last year, with a petition criticising the companies damaging adverts, and the company had to change the ‘Perfect Body’ slogan to ‘A body for everybody’ after 26,000 people signed a petition against the advert.

Brittany Cordts, who has put forward a petition calling for curvier models at fashion shows, said, ‘Victoria’s Secret is promoting self-loathing and it needs to stop. It’s time for them to realise that they have a social responsibility to stop encouraging a toxic body image to tens of millions of teens and women.’

Over 3,500 have signed the new petitions currently and while Victoria’s Secret hasn’t yet responded, the petitions continue to grow while the thousands of petitioners await an answer.

Often commenting on industry news, a spokesperson for Lux Lingerie said, ‘The petition to demand plus-size lingerie from companies such as Victoria’s Secret shows there is a demand for top quality lingerie for every woman. At Lux Lingerie, our range offers just that, allowing every woman to enjoy sexy lingerie be they plus-size or not.’
