Farm shop owner secures second site at historic Sledmere
An East Yorkshire businessman is building on the success of his coastal farm shop and café with the opening of a second site at a stately home in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds.
Mark Farnsworth, founder of William's Farm Kitchen and Café at Hornsea Outlet Village, will run the popular Terrace Café at Sledmere House and will open William's Farm Kitchen at Sledmere on 24thMarch.
Of the decision to open a second farm shop, Mr Farnsworth said: "I have been looking to replicate the William's Farm Kitchen model of exceptional local food at great value at another site for a while. When Sledmere's Resident Agent, Stephen Greenfield, told me about the exciting plans to develop the estate's offering this year, I welcomed the opportunity to be a part of it."
The new farm shop will stock Yorkshire made products alongside its home-made bakery products and a butchery offering from the in house butchers at Hornsea. The café will continue to serve the favourites for which it is renowned, plus some extra dishes inspired by William's Farm Kitchen's Hornsea menu.
William's Farm Kitchen at Sledmere will provide employment for 12 people and will provide a valuable community resource as a shop for the residents of Sledmere and the outlying farms, who have not had a village shop for over seven years.
Stephen Greenfield is delighted to welcome Mark to Sledmere and said: "2015 will be a landmark year for Sledmere and we're very pleased to be partnering with Mark and his team to complement the Sledmere experience with a wider range of delicious local food and drink.
"We are also extending our opening hours and opening the stables to the public for the first time in Sledmere's history."
William's Farm Kitchen is an award-winning farm shop, butchery and café that has established an excellent reputation for its great value local food, its cycling events and its popular Meet the Producer Days.
Sledmere House is a Grade I listed stately home that has been in the Sykes family for over 250 years. The Collection in the House includes many fine paintings and examples of furniture by Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton, whilst the renowned gardens are set within a park inspired by a Capability Brown design and include a parterre, potager garden and a shaded dell.
William's Farm Kitchen and the Terrace Café are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 24thMarch and the House, gardens, grounds and stables will open on Good Friday.
