What to do when a child sex offender calls will be a key topic under discussion at an annual conference for counsellors and psychotherapists.

The event, being held by the Neurolinguistic Psychotherapy and Counselling Association (NLPtCA), features an exciting line up of speakers and will include a workshop that will cover the issues around working with people at risk of sexual offending.

Juliet Grayson, Chair of StopSO, the Specialist Treatment Organisation for the Prevention of Sexual Offending, is leading the workshop whichwill answer the question of what to do when a sex offender calls. Julietwill offer guidance for therapists and counsellors to understand the legal situation and their responsibilities for working with this client group.

Juliet said, "With the recent Independent Police Complaints Commission inquiry into allegations of senior police officers and MPs' involvement in child sex abuse, it seems that child sex abuse is woven into the fabric of British society. But the new strategy being implemented by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), advocates engaging counseling and psychotherapy services to provide help for child sex offenders to stop them abusing children.

"Research shows that with the right kind of psychological interventions, the reoffending rate for people who are at risk of sexual offending can be as low as 4.6 per cent. By working with this client group we can stop more adult and child victims being created and break the cycle of abuse."

The event is being held in Stratford-upon-Avon over two days, from Thursday, June 18, over 100 practitioners are expected to gather to share their ideas and develop best practice.

Sharon Rooke, chair of the NLPtCA, commented, "We are delighted that Juliet can join us to talk about this important topic. We see working with child sex offenders as a child protection issue. With the increasing availability of child abuse images on the internet, easily accessible from people's homes, more people than ever are at risk of child sexual offending. It is important that psychotherapists and counselors are sure that this is a client group they can work with and that they fully understand their legal obligations and responsibilities."

Also speaking at the conference will be Dr Elizabeth Dartnall covering the Seven Eyed Model of Supervision; and Rene Bosman with an NLPt perspective on trauma and dissociation."

The cost of attending the conference at the stunning Stratford Manor Hotel is £225 (*£249.50 for non-members) for the full two-day all inclusive package. Further information, including booking details are available by visiting www.nlptca.com/NLPtCA-Conference-2015
