Peter Hickman shrugged off the effects of a heavy crash to net the Briggs Equipment-sponsored RAF Reserves Team another points score and maintain a top eight position in the MCE British Superbike Championship standings.

Having qualified in 22nd place for the opening race at Brands Hatch on April 18-19, Peter posted his best lap of the weekend in the morning warm-up and was feeling optimistic going into the first race. A good start had enabled him to jump to 15th by the end of the opening lap and he was lying in tenth by two-thirds distance when a crash on the 25th lap brought his race to an abrupt and painful end.

Although badly shaken and bruised, Peter was able to continue and took his place on the grid for the second race. Battling through the pain, he finished 14thand picked up two hard earned Championship points.

Lee Hardy, RAF Reserves Team Owner, said:"After the highs of Donington, we've been brought back down to earth with a bang - literally - this weekend, but Peter did a great job throughout and there are a lot of positives to take away.

"We've learnt a lot and realise which direction we need to be going in, so Peter's a lot happier with the bike now. The results don't show it but, overall, it's been a strong weekend and we're very much looking forward to round three."

Gary Clements, Strategic Development Director at Briggs Equipment, said: "The racing at Brands Hatch was really exciting. We are pleased that Peter was not badly hurt after his crash and that his determination was rewarded with some valuable Championship points."

After two rounds, Peter Hickman is eighth inthe standings with 26 points. The MCE British Superbike Championship now moves to Oulton Park in Cheshire for round three, which takes place on May 2-4.
