The correct choice of damp-proof membrane (DPM) or moisture vapour suppressants (MVS) depends upon a careful assessment of the substrate and in particular it's moisture content. tremco illbruck offers a comprehensive service, from start to finish, for customers to ensure that the chosen product is the right one for the installation.

When refurbishing an existing floor, a high moisture reading usually suggests a failure in any existing membrane. Care should be taken in examining the floor as damp can enter the screed from around the edges as well as through penetrations in the old membrane itself.

The relative humidity (RH) of a floor will determine the type of membrane that should be used. In properties where readings are up to 95% and a DPM already exisits, TREMCO ES600, a water-based MVS can be used. Where RH readings exceed 95% a high performance epoxy membrane should be used. The ambient humidity of the substrate will dictate the type of liquid membrane required. Reasonably sound floors can be treated with a dispersion water-based DPM that will protect against humidity levels of over 90%.  Very damp floors will require a high performance epoxy membrane to ensure reliable moisture control.

For rapid treatment of new concrete, tremco illbruck has a range of two part epoxy DPMs. Where a rapid installation is required, it is advisable to use ES200 which cures in half the time of a traditional DPM.
