Clio Cup racer Adam Hatfield recommends EDT
Clio Cup racer Adam Hatfield recommends EDT

Norwich-based racing driver Adam Hatfield is having a great year. After progressing from karting into the Citroen Saxo junior series, he has now turned 17 and is competing in the Michelin Clio Cup.

He finished sixth in the first race of the season, has just secured sponsorship from engine detox specialist EDT Automotive, and to top it all off he has passed his driving test.

As you'd expect from an up and coming track star, his road car is pretty tasty: a silver '57 plate BMW 116i with about 60,000 miles on the clock. One of the first things he did was tap up his new sponsor for a free engine treatment. He was, to use his words, seriously impressed.

"I had the EDT treatment on my BMW this morning and it is absolutely amazing," he said. "As soon as I started the engine I noticed it was quieter and once we got going I could immediately tell there was more power. It was smoother and faster.

"It was doing about 37mpg before and that's up to 43. It's just incredible. Another great thing is it can apply to all sorts of drivers - people who want to improve their car's performance and people who want to drive down their costs. Very highly recommended."

Ok, given that EDT sponsors him, a glowing reference is hardly surprising. "I am very grateful to EDT for backing me but my reputation is more important," he said. "All I can say is try an EDT treatment and see for yourself."

With an effect likened to descaling a dishwasher, the hand-built EDT machine cleans petrol or diesel engines with an environmentally friendly solution. It takes just 15 minutes to remove up to half a litre of thick black sludge (carbon and metallic particles, varnish, even the odd broken-off dipstick), stuff that doesn't come out in an ordinary oil change.

The results are close to doing a manual engine strip, with fuel economy increased by up to 20%, power increased by up to 6bhp and torque increased by up to 7ft-lb. Harmful emissions are also significantly reduced: CO by an average 66% and diesel smoke by an average 58%.

David Holmes AAE FIMI AIRTE, managing director at EDT Automotive, commented: "Adam is a very exciting young driver, a real talent, so we're delighted to be associated with him. When it comes to power and driveability, he knows what he's talking about, so the fact he's recommended EDT is a great endorsement for us."
