Parkeon Support Helps Plymouth Athlete Fulfil Her Dream

A young Plymouth athlete is about to fulfil a lifetime dream, thanks in part to support from leading parking technology company Parkeon.

Chloe Stoneman, 16, has just been selected for the GB underwater hockey team competing in the CMAS World Championships in Spain in August - but needs to raise £1500 to cover match fees, kit and travel expenses. Underwater hockey is a completely amateur sport with no central funding.

Chloe had already notched-up £200 through a sponsored event, but the donation of £500 from Parkeon puts her well on the way to achieving her target.

"I have been a member of the Team GB international squad for the past 12 months, training across the country in an attempt to gain selection for the world championships," said Chloe. "Without the incredible support from my family, friends and companies such as Parkeon, I may not have been able to realise my dream of representing my country. I am eternally grateful and promise that I will represent my country with passion and pride."

Underwater Hockey was created by Alan Blake in Portsmouth in 1954 to keep Navy divers active during the non-diving season. It involves teams of six players in the pool at any given time.

Chloe fell in love with the sport four years ago during a taster event at college. She had been looking to build a new circle of friends after bullying incidents at school...and found the underwater hockey community very welcoming.

Now she is one of the country's leading players, undertaking 8 hours pool training each week and 7 - 10 hours gym work. Chloe also coaches the Plymouth U12 team.

Jon Hillier from Parkeon said that company was delighted to help Chloe realise her lifelong ambition.

"Parkeon enjoys a positive working relationship with the city council and with Chloe's father, who works there - so when he told me about her story, we were only too pleased to lend our support," says Jon. "She is a fantastic girl and clearly very passionate about her sport and we wish Chloe and the team every success in the upcoming competition."

Chloe will be competing in the Under 19 age group against teams from France, Italy, South Africa, New Zealand, Colombia, Canada, USA, Turkey, Netherlands and Spain.
