Vast majority of 45 and overs not worried about the state of their hearts

New research released today sees 70% of people aged 45 and over say they are not worried about their heart health
  • Around one in seven (14%) in that age group admit they have never done anything to try and actively improve their heart health
  • Almost half (47%) did not know heart disease is the biggest cause of death in the UK, despite the fact that 152,436 people die of the disease every year, an average of more than 417 people per day
  • If the trend remains the same over three million people will be at risk over the next 20 years
  •
Millions of people aged 45 and over could be seriously jeopardising their health because of a lack of concern about the state of their hearts, according to new research from Sirco, the first fruit juice drink that has been scientifically proven to help maintain cardiovascular health and benefit circulation of the blood.

The new research released today shows that 70% of people aged 45 and over are not concerned about their heart health.

And they are only slightly more concerned than those under 45, with 73% in that age group worried.

Furthermore, around one in seven 45 and overs (14%) don't do anything to actively improve their heart health, only slightly less than 26% of under 45s who admitted the same.

Across all age groups, over half (51%) were not aware that heart disease is the biggest health-related cause of death in the UK.

A total of152,436 people died in the UK over the last year from heart disease, an average of 417 people per day. If this rate continues over the next 20 years, more than three million people will be at risk

The survey, commissioned by Sirco - the first scientifically proven drink to help maintain cardiovascular health - also asked people what lifestyle changes they have made to help improve their heart health.

Less than half of all British adults (47%) say they exercise, 39% have cut down on their intake of saturated fats, and 37% have cut down on their salt intake. The study also showed a lack of awareness around what can lead to a heart attack with almost a third (29%) not realising that blood clots can be a contributor.

19% of adults aged 45-54 years and 29% aged 55+ have gone to a health professional to seek advice. 10% of the former and 22% of the latter have taken aspirin, which thins the blood.

However a third of all deaths (and rising) in adults in the UK are caused by heart disease either due to cholesterol or platelet function. While there are plenty of products on the market to reduce cholesterol, Sirco is the only product to improve platelet function and prevent blood clots.

Inspired by the Mediterranean diet, Sirco contains Fruitflow which is a natural, active ingredient from tomatoes that helps keep your heart healthy from the very day you drink it. Sirco smooths blood platelets preventing the blood in the arteries from getting "sticky"; just like low dose Aspirin but with no side effects when consumed in a 250ml daily serving of Sirco, it will help contribute to normal healthy blood flow within three hours of drinking and lasts up to 18 hours in the blood.

Sirco will shortly launch on QVC, with TV presenter Anna Williamson presenting the brand. She said: ''With heart disease being the main cause of death in the UK, it's more important than ever that we all look after our heart health and take the relevant precautions and measures to ensure we take care of our heart - after all, without it supported by healthy blood flow and beating away healthy, we wouldn't be here!

"My family has a history of heart related issues, and I myself have familial high cholesterol.  We need to take appropriate measures as soon as possible to ensure we can maintain a healthy heart and blood flow, and Sirco offers exactly that.  An easy and tasty way to ensure we get our daily quota of 'heart health', the fruit juice, with its unique natural ingredient, really does work and is a simple way for the whole family to look after their heart health without even thinking about it. It is in my opinion the natural alternative!"

Sirco is an ideal fruit juice replacement in the morning, containing only natural occurring sugars and is ideal for people travelling and prone to sitting around a long time at work behind a desk or in hospital.

Sirco is also available in 334 large Sainsbury's Superstores, Ocado, Amazon, independent health storesand for more details log on to:www.sircoheart.com.
