Hampshire Based Bike Company Launches UK's First Full Assembly Line For Electric Bikes.

The electric bike market in countries like Holland and Germany is way ahead of the UK but Aldershot based CycloTricity are working hard to close the gap. They have recently announced the launch of, what they believe to be, the UK's first ever assembly factory for electric bicycles.

They have invested £180,000 in new facilities and this will enable them to produce 3,000 bikes in the first year rising to 10,000 bikes during the next three years. As part of the assembly process Cyclotricity will also be helping to support UK manufacturing by working with a number of small engineering firms to source some of their components. Electric bikes have a reputation for being expensive but, by taking the manufacturing and assembly process in-house, Cyclotricity are seeing both improved quality control and effective cost management. This has enabled them to produce a range of great looking, hi-spec eBikes starting at a price-busting £649.00. All Cyclotricity's bikes come with a detachable battery pack which can be easily removed for re-charging.

Cyclotricity are also using 3D printing and other rapid prototyping techniques as part of their design process. This is helping them to produce new models the first of which will be a very stylish step-through folding eBike targeting the female market.

Managing Director Rami Akily says "This is the UK's first full assembly line for eBikes which is very exciting. There is a misconception that "Made in Britain" can come with a premium price tag but we can also be very efficient at manufacturing highly technical and "clever" products. By carefully controlling the whole build process we can translate this into a reduced price tag." Akily goes on to add "eBikes are a fantastic way of keeping fit but they can also help the rider to negotiate the more challenging slopes and hills. Over the past few years we have seen an undeniable increase in the popularity of e-bikes. Our sales are increasing year on year and we are very optimistic about seeing even greater market growth".

Notes For Editors.

CycloTricity are based in Ash Vale near Aldershot in Hampshire and were established in 2008. Their current range of eBikes includes hybrids (on and off road mountain bike style), folding models and a step-through design. The maximum speed of 15.5 mph is set by government guidelines but they also produce an off-road version capable of 30+ mph. Each bike come with a choice of standard manual mode and pedal assisted mode (as the rider pedals the motor in the front wheel pulls them along). The bikes can deliver a pedal assisted range of between 20-60 miles depending on the model.

CycloTricity have a young management team of 8 and a clear vision of taking the ‘Made in Britain' flag to the wider European market. They set up their first overseas branch this year in Malmo, Sweden to cater for the Scandinavian market and plans are in place to start export their models to Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.

Cyclotricity recruit and train their own engineers and mechanics to a level where they have the skills and experience to run their own future production line. They undertake their own research and development and this has also enabled the company to benefit from significant tax saving incentives.
