RESIDENTS GATHER FOR COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

Dozens of residents from across Stafford, Stone and Blythe Bridge braved the unseasonal weather during the half-term holiday to take part in a series of community clean up events at local allotments.

Organised as part of an initiative delivered by Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) and Stafford Borough Council, the events were the first in a series of activities driven by the innovative Growing Health Project.

Based on the success of the award-winning SARH Meadow Road Community Allotment Scheme, the project aims to promote healthier lifestyles and build stronger communities.

Laura MacPhee, SARH Community Involvement Officer, explained: "Despite the poor weather, we had families and residents of all ages turning out to help tidy up the allotments which had become overgrown.

"Together, they also helped to clear up litter and other rubbish and now we're looking forward to the allotments becoming a place where local people can grow their own healthy food and, at the same time, get together to help build stronger communities."

The Community Clean Up events took place at allotments in Brookhouse Drive, Stafford; Priory Road, Stone; and Adamthwaite Drive, Blythe Bridge.

"Now we are looking for even more people to get involved in a project which will help them to get active, eat well and at the same time create shared spaces that local communities can really be proud of," added Laura.
