Yorkshire Wagyu is a soaring success for Balloon Tree

A collaboration between a Wolds beef farmer and a popular farm shop has delighted consumers.

The Balloon Tree Farm Shop at Gate Helmsley is the first retail outlet to stock Yorkshire Wagyu's premium beef and reported a sell-out success on the first weekend of trading.

Tibthorpe, Driffield-based Yorkshire Wagyu marked the launch of its range of steaks, burgers and roasting joints at the award-winning farm shop by offering free samples of steak that had been cooked by Yorkshire Wagyu chef, Nick Dawson in its bespoke catering trailer.

Yorkshire Wagyu co-founder, Jonathan Shepherd, was delighted with the response to the beef: "We hadn't even finished unpacking the beef in the farm shop before we welcomed our first customer!"

The first customer was Truda Taylor, who had seen the Yorkshire Wagyu sign on the road-side and been asked by her husband, David, to buy some as a Father's Day present.

David was delighted with his first taste of Yorkshire Wagyu and contacted the company with his feedback: "The meat was excellent - my nine year old enjoying a very thick piece of rare fillet. The beef is of excellent quality, flavour and the thickness of the cut is something hard to find in the UK. We look forward to more in the future."

Balloon Tree owner, Mathew Machin said: "Consumers are increasingly looking for new and different great tasting products with known provenance and Yorkshire Wagyu satisfies that demand perfectly, as David's feedback illustrates. The Yorkshire Wagyu gourmet burgers that were on sale in the Café proved popular too."

Wagyu beef originates from Japan where it is renowned for its exceptional flavour, melt in your mouth tenderness and its high levels of ‘good' monounsaturated fats that give the beef its characteristic marbling. ‘Wa' means things that are Japanese and ‘gyu' means cattle or beef.

The Yorkshire Wagyu trailer is available to hire, fully staffed, for parties and events. Please call Jono Cooper on 07951 018302 for more information.
