Leading business expert advising on the fast-growing retail trend of pop-ups.
-- Over the next two years, wannabe entrepreneurs will launch 3.4 million pop-up shops across the UK.
-- Almost one third of new businesses launched in the UK over the next two years will start life as a pop-up shop according to a poll of 2,000 people by EE (June 2015).Mum of two, Daisy has been selected to go to China in October 2015 as just one of 40 entrepreneurs (part of Enterprise Nation's Go Globalcampaign).
Daisy's third book, YA fiction, Taming Tigers, captured the attention of numerous publishers and will be published by Melange Books' Fire and Ice YAimprintat the end of July 2015.
Daisy has been named an Enterprise Champion by Emma Jones' Enterprise Nation.
No one could ever accuse Daisy White of being lazy.
Despite working (at least) two jobs, juggling family and feline commitments, and working on her pop-up retail consultancy,Daisy White(who hails from just outside of Brighton) has found time to write the first in a series of YA fiction novels that follow Talia as she seeks a better life in her war-torn homeland of Arista.
Daisy has written two other novels (Roadkill and Killing Time) and contributed to a book of short stories about inspiring women (When Bad Things Happen To Good Women). Recently, the surge in pop-ups has seen her pop-up book shop ‘Booktique' and her pop-up consultancy become busier than ever.
"Pop-ups are such a hot topic at the moment, and one of the small business government promises at the Debate was to get more start-ups on the high street, and move home business off the kitchen table and out into town," Daisy explains from behind the counter of her ‘out into town' pop-up book shop. "To give you some idea of scale - one-third of new UK start-ups in 2015 will be pop-ups."
An author who has also got her own unique and effective sales channel is a unique proposition. "You need to think outside the book to stand out in the publishing trade, and I am constantly exploring new ways to do that," says Daisy.
Indeed, that was her idea behind starting Booktique, the pop-up bookstore. Instead of sitting back with her first self-published novel and waiting for the magic to happen, Daisy got creative and built a business that would support her creative endeavours.
And it is working. Two books later, Daisy has gained the attention of US publisher Melange Books with whom she brokered a three-book deal to publish her ‘Tiger' trilogy.
As many others would be tempted to sit back and bathe in their own success, Daisy is now trying to convince others they can achieve their goals by consulting on various pop-up ventures. Although many people across the UK are trying to capitalise on the pop-up trend, Daisy's 2013 Business Innovation Award (which led to a meeting in Downing Street about home businesses) and her inclusion in Pop-up Britain's ‘Most promising entrepreneurs...' sets Daisy head and shoulders ahead of the competition.
One of her main consultancy projects is ‘Pop-up Horsham', a shopping destination project with the aim of reinvigorating the high street. "There has been huge support for local pop-ups, and this will give start-ups a chance to dip their toes in high street trading in an affordable way." Pop-up Horsham has now been finalised and is ‘open for business' as of this month (July) with the support ofEnterprise Nation, the company established by MBE Emma Jones who also established StartUp Britain. Daisy explains: "Ventures such as Pop-up Horsham help to maintain an exciting high street and keep a town as a shopping destination, rather than a boarded-up drive through!"
Enterprise Nation was so impressed by Daisy's ingenuity and entrepreneurism that it named her an Enterprise Champion. Once Taming Tigers is published and on sale on both sides of the Atlantic, Daisy will be jetting off to China, having been selected to join a trade mission. Just 40 entrepreneurs will travel to Shanghai as part of Enterprise Nation's Go Global campaign in October of 2015.
Daisy's novel, Taming Tigers, is out in the summer 2015 and Daisy is available for interview, editorial commissions and discussion around the importance of pop-ups in the UK retail sector, evolving from self-published to published author, and opportunities for literary/retail entrepreneurs in the UK.
