Ilfracombe Triathlon set to be another success
Organisers of the Ilfracombe Triathlon are looking forward to a bumper number of entries to this year's event, which is being held on 6thSeptember. The race consists of a 400m sea swim from Ilfracombe harbour, a 15.5 mile hilly cycle course which takes in some fantastic views along the coastline from Combe Martin, and a stunning 6k run that leads competitors through some of the most breath-taking sea views around Ilfracombe.
The boom in popularity of triathlon is one of the most interesting sports phenomena of the past few years, with race participation in the UK showing an increase of more than 300% in the past 5 years. Triathlon is a relatively new sport, with the first recorded triathlon only taking place in 1974.
The Ilfracombe triathlon has become a popular event locally and the North Devon Tri Club has seen an increasing number of members with the ever-growing popularity of the sport. Says Chairman of the Tri Club, Damian Railston: "This is a sprint triathlon so the distances are within the reaches of novices, yet will also appeal to experienced triathletes who want to challenge themselves against the North Devon rolling landscape. The course isn't easy but will offer a huge sense of satisfaction to any who complete it. We are a very friendly club who love to help new members reach their triathlon goals whether it's a first timer or a potential Ironman."
Known for its rugged coastline and beautiful beaches, the Ilfracombe Triathlon is now attracting competitors of all levels, including GBR triathletes, and from all over the UK.
Said Race Director, Sarah Logan, "It is exciting to see this event grow in North Devon and attract so many superb athletes to the area. Places for the 2015 were being booked up straight after the close of the 2014 event, so we are expecting a large number of competitors and an even bigger number of spectators."
Anyone interested in taking part can book their entry atwww.ilfracombetri.co.uk. Individual entry costs £40 and relay teams can enter for £57 per team.
