Unprecedented demand for adventure playground benefits local children's hospice

A new Bradford adventure playground has recorded an unprecedented number of visitors in its first two weeks.

The Grass Hoppers Adventure Playground at Tong Garden Centre has welcomed thousands of children since it opened its doors to the public on 27thJuly.

Tong Garden Centre was acquired by Mark Farnsworth and Tom Megginson earlier this year and the Adventure Playground is just one of the new additions and improvements that have been made to the 30 year old business.

Mr. Farnsworth said: "We have been blown away by the popularity of Grass Hoppers and it's great to see so many children and families enjoying the new Tong experience.

At just £2.50 for children, with no fee for adults, it represents excellent value for money, but more importantly, 10% of the entry fee from each child playing this summer will go to Martin House Children's Hospice to benefit children with life-limiting illnesses."

Grass Hoppers Adventure Playground comprises a jumping pillow, a zip-wire, a giant climbing frame, trim trail and sand pit; as well as a family-friendly café serving children's lunch boxes, sweet treats, snacks and ice cream.

Satisfied families have shared their excitement about Grass Hoppers and the latest developments at Tong Garden Centre on social media. Comments posted on Grass Hoppers Facebook page include: "Had a lovely afternoon at grass hoppers with my grandchildren. We loved it and will be visiting again", "Fab morning. Kids had a ball will definitely be visiting again" and "Minnie went last week with the childminder and loved it!"

Tong Garden Centre occupies a 17 acre site in Tong village. It is Yorkshire's biggest independent garden centre with 110,000 square feet of retail space and parking for up to 1,000 cars.

  1. Tong Garden Centre had been in the same family for over 30 years before its acquisition in May, 2015.  It burnt down around 15 years ago and had a major rebuild into the current format.
