Race win for Hickman at Ulster Grand Prix

Briggs Equipment-sponsored Peter Hickman took his first International road race win in only his second year of competition at the Ulster Grand Prix in Co Antrim (August 8).

Victory in the final Superbike race rounded off an excellent performance at the Dundrod circuit by the 28-year old rider. Having posted a third place finish in the Dundrod 150 Superbike event, Peter followed up with a fourth place in the feature seven-lap Superbike event and finished second in the Superstock race.

Wet conditions meant the Superbike race was reduced from six laps to four. Hickman led from the start but was under pressure throughout and crossed the finish line only 0.028s ahead of Conor Cummins, with less than second covering the first four riders.

In the Superstock race Peter once again led most of the way but, with only a few corners to go, was overtaken by the more experienced Lee Johnston who snatched victory by 0.09s. Hickman had moved up to third in the feature Superbike race when it was red flagged for an incident, and with the result declared at the end of lap four, he finished in fourth place.

Few competitors were in the mood for celebrating as theUlster Grand Prixwas sadly overshadowed by the death of 24-year old Andy Lawson. Briggs Equipment sends its condolences to his family, friends and race team.

Peter Hickman will be back in action with the RAF Reserves at Cadwell Park on August 21-23 for round eight of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.
