An ambitious £5.5 million redevelopment project that's set to provide more affordable homes to rent in the centre of Stafford has been given the green light.

At a recent meeting, Stafford Borough Council approved plans submitted by Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) for 63 attractive, modern, energy-efficient apartments in Hesketh Road.

The news marks another significant step forward for the landmark project that will also see the demolition of 54 flats as part of a major regeneration of an important route into the heart of the town.

Latest visuals released by SARH and produced in conjunction with architects Pozzoni and tec3d show the ambition and scale of the development that will dramatically transform the neighbourhood.

Karen Armitage, SARH Chief Executive, commented: "We're delighted the new development at Hesketh Road has gained planning consent and SARH is looking forward to pressing ahead with this exciting project.

"In addition to meeting local housing needs, this redevelopment scheme will provide a major boost to the local economy through the creation of new jobs, new training opportunities and the use of local suppliers."

Hesketh Road is part of a wider, £40 million SARH programme to regenerate key neighbourhoods in Staffordshire and build over 300 new homes, and it has been supported with funding from the Housing and Communities Agency (HCA).

John Cooke, director at Pozzoni, added: "The fact that the council has approved the planning application and as a result, the flats will be demolished and transformed into new apartments is a very popular decision, especially within the local community. We look forward to working with the team at Stafford and Rural Homes on the continued regeneration of the neighbourhood."
