Labcell is introducing the CSM HV Thermo-Scan MiniModule for easy, safe and accurate measurement of temperatures in high-voltage automotive applications such as electric and hybrid vehicles. CSM has built on its wealth of experience with temperature measurement and CAN systems by packaging this with 800V galvanic isolation for the safety of operators and instrumentation systems when testing high-voltage live parts. Two versions of the new MiniModule accept inputs from four or eight K type thermocouples, designated the HV THMM 4 and HV THMM 8, respectively, and output data via CAN for acquisition and analysis or for use in real-time control systems.

Unlike other Thermo-Scan MiniModules, the HV versions come complete with thermocouples as an accredited, certified package to ensure safety; special connectors prevent mishandling and short circuits. Labcell can also arrange for servicing, calibration and safety performance verification so users always have confidence in both the measurement performance and safety.

The HV Thermo-Scan MiniModule features a measurement range of -100 to +1372 degrees C, measurement data rates of 1, 2, 5 or 10Hz per channel, internal cold junction compensation per channel and automatic detection of broken sensors. Accuracy is typically 0.05 per cent of the measured value (at 25 degrees C) with typical temperature drift of just +/- 10ppm/K. Power consumption is a modest 1.0 W approximately, operating from a 6-30 V DC supply. Interfacing can be via either CAN2.0B or high-speed CAN. The operating temperature range is -40 to +100 degrees C with relative humidity from 5 to 95 per cent, and the module operates at altitudes of up to 5000m above sea level. The four-channel version measures just 130x33x75mm and, as with the eight-channel version, benefits from a robust aluminium housing that is sealed to IP67.

Typical in-vehicle applications for the HV Thermo-Scan MiniModule include testing battery performance at different temperatures, monitoring temperature profiles across batteries, and measuring the temperature of cables, components and compartments within the vehicle. For dynamometer applications, Labcell offers an alternative version of the measurement module that is designed for rack-mounting. Configuration of the Thermo-Scan MiniModules is achieved easily via CAN bus using the CSM Config Tool and all settings and configuration data are stored within the module.

Labcell is a service partner with CSM and has been supplying and supporting the company's products for four years. For further information on the Labcell range, please call 01420 568150, emailmail@labcell.comor go towww.labcell-automotive.com.
