Homes nowadays are not only be energy-efficient; they also feature a range of eco-friendly materials including Norbord's SterlingOSB.  As a leader in the manufacture of sustainable and environmentally-friendly panel board products, Norbord has a product for all energy efficient home designs.

Along with smart technology, future homes are expected to come with a range of unusual innovations to create an eco-friendly environment, Rich McEachran writes in the Guardian*. When it comes to the layout of a home, this will be rather different from what you see today.

McEachran explains that the future home will leave behind its designated rooms of the past, instead featuring moving walls and units that can turn any space into any room with little effort. In order to create this innovation, units that act as both walls and storage will be crafted using oriented strand board (OSB), a cost-effective and carbon neutral alternative to more traditional building materials.

This design technique has featured in PKMN Architectures redesign with Yolanda Pila to create the most out of her small studio apartment.

Additionally, walls will be coated with non-toxic paints, such as homemade organic milk paint, which does not contain the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) said to contribute to poor lung health. McEachran suggests that lamps will be made using upcycled wood and feature an LED bulb. Furthermore, the lampshade could be made from a combination of agricultural waste and mycelium, which is a type of fungus. It is believed that mushrooms have a big part to play in a sustainable future as they are both recyclable and grown from the earth.

Norbord is one of the world's leading manufacturers of engineered wood-based panel products. All products are FSC-certified and used extensively in the construction, DIY and furniture sectors. Norbord's brands, SterlingOSB, Caberwood MDF, Contiboard and Caberfloor are well known in the construction industry and are commonly specified by architects, national housebuilders and specifiers.
