"Transporter continues to outperform the market and that isn't set to change"-Gavin Amos
My Car Check Tradeis the trade valuations arm of CDL Vehicle Information Services. Based on cutting-edge industry data and feedback from independent and franchised dealers, these monthly bulletins highlight the most significant trends in the UK light commercial vehicle (LCV) market.
Head of Valuation Services at My Car Check Trade, Gavin Amos, commented:"Trade during September was sure but steady with reasonable activity levels and values remaining virtually level. For October, we have pulled most van values back very slightly as we head into winter. As always, the gems will buck the trend. Even though Volkswagen is getting some bad publicity at the moment, Transporter continues to outperform the market and that isn't set to change.
"At the smaller end of the market, Fiesta, Corsa and the other car derived vans (CDVs) are all doing well, especially those in ready to retail condition. Vans in weird and wonderful colours are generally much less desirable, to the extent that a spray job can be a wise investment.
"For the likes of Dispatch and its peers, the key really is not only condition but having a full service history. These are few and far between, but well worth seeking out as a nice profit opportunity. Lower capacity diesels are particularly desirable.
"Crafter and Sprinter are both top performers, especially if you can source clean examples. One to keep an eye on is the new Transit - we've seen a number not achieving the expected values.
"Ever more dealers are seizing the profit opportunity in conversions, often with Transporter but increasingly other models too. The most popular approach is buying a high mileage example, customising the exterior and leaving the back as a blank canvas for the customer to spec. Buy the van at the right price, add spoilers, colour coding and alloys, advertise it and then go for the upsell - window fitting, seats, lineouts and camper conversions - at the point of sale. There's serious money to be made."
