Award winning B2B Inbound Marketing Agency Tomorrow People, in conjunction with B2B Marketing Magazine, would like to present their recent findings on the question, ‘Is data key to content success?’


The Birmingham-based agency research answers to what extent data is being positioned at the heart of content marketing strategies, to secure the best returns on investment.


The findings benchmark the level of commitment to data that currently exists when it comes to B2B content marketing. Additionally the insights suggest that data should provide the foundations for everything that goes into content marketing; from deciding what to produce and where to share it in the first place, through to evaluating whether your marketing efforts have been worthwhile.


Tomorrow People also asked respondents to describe, in their own words, what success in content marketing looks like to them. One respondent replied, ‘Success means being able to capture valuable customer data (website journeys, data etc), then being able to use this to refine our customer journey mapping and therefore being able to further tailor the experience, which should lead to higher levels of engagement and finally better quality leads. It's quality of leads rather than quantity which is the KPI.’


Alistair Norman, Managing Director of Tomorrow People, commented on the findings, “60% of marketers described themselves as data-driven. The same percentage said they used insights from data to shape their marketing campaigns. But the survey revealed a core problem. Despite this commitment to being data-driven, just 15% described the quality of their data as ‘very good’, while 80% believed leveraging data would lead to better customer focus. They want to use data – but they haven’t got a grip on it. It’s the data elephant in the room.”
