East Yorkshire beef business selected to pitch to the experts
The team behind a fledgling beef business is celebrating after being shortlisted in a national award to win £10,000 worth of business support.
Driffield based The Yorkshire Wagyu Company was invited to pitch to a panel of judges after reaching the final of a competition organised by The Artisan Food Trail; a business that provides support to artisan food and drink producers throughout the UK.
The Yorkshire Wagyu Company team of three, including co-founder Jonathan Shepherd; chef Nick Dawson and vet Jono Cooper travelled to London to the Entrepreneur Show and Takeaway Innovation Expo to pitch their ideas to a panel of experts comprising marketing, investment and legal experts.
Director Jonathan Shepherd was delighted to reach the final: "This is a high profile award and we were very proud to be shortlisted. We had a great day at the Expo and were very encouraged by the feedback that we received."
The team at The Yorkshire Wagyu Company are expecting to find out whether they have been successful later this month.
After two years spent establishing one of the biggest herds of full and cross bred Wagyu beef in the UK, Wolds farmers Jonathan Shepherd and Jim Bloom launched The Yorkshire Wagyu Company to sell their premium beef direct.
Wagyu beef originates from Japan where it is renowned for its exceptional flavour and melt in your mouth tenderness and its high levels of ‘good' monounsaturated fats that give the beef its characteristic marbling.
