International Smart Factory Symposium to Come to UK in 2016

Leading industrialists, politicians and economists have all voiced deep concern about UK productivity levels. Delegates returning from Forcam’s twelfth international productivity event held this year in Germany have expressed strong interest in developing a similar high-level best-practice forum in UK in 2016.

At the Forcam event in Ludwigsburg, hosted by Mann+Hummel, increasing productivity in manufacturing, becoming more competitive and securing jobs were the central topics. The forum, reflecting the practical experience of delegates examined all aspects of manufacturing digitisation by the application of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Industrialists, academics along with development staff from Forcam, shared their experiences in integrating the industrial internet with manufacturing processes to achieve higher plant use, reduce waste and to become more agile and responsive to client demands and boost competitiveness.

Numerous multinational clients including BorgWarner, Buehler AG, Grammer Ag, Mann+Hummel, National Oilwell Varco (USA) and consulting firm CSC attended the event. Andrew Steele, the UK managing director commented, “This was a highly engaged conference. We are planning to host a UK event in June 2016.”

Principal sponsor for the event, Forcam, is the developer of Forcam Force, the software system that enables intelligence to be gathered from the factory shop floor, processed in real-time and re-presented in role-relevant format to operators, supervisors and managers. This enables timely interventions to increase productivity by better asset use, minimisation of waste and improving the yield of quality product. Typical productivity gains of 20 per cent are common in the first year of implementing this system, with many users then using the system as a basis for continuous improvement programmes and to provide essential real time data to SAP or other ERP systems.
