TOTALKARE boost for rocket-powered car

Plans to break the iconic land speed record have taken a major step forward with the help of the UK's number one provider of heavy-duty vehicle-lifting solutions.

The team behind the Bloodhound SSC project have taken the wraps off their supersonic car, with a set of lifts from TOTALKARE helping them rise to the occasion.

The car's debut at East Garden in Canary Wharf last month wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Halesowen-based firm, which has donated a set of its acclaimed S6cf cable-free lifts to the project.

Tristan Johnston, TOTALKARE Sales and Marketing Manager, commented: "We have been involved with this project for a few years now, and to finally see our lifts in action lifting the Bloodhound SSC is great.

"It also demonstrates our philosophy of developing comprehensive lifting solutions, as I don't believe any other mobile vehicle lifts have been used in this way before."

A mix of racing car and aircraft technology, the Bloodhound SSC vehicle is approximately 13.4m long and weighs 7.5 tonnes. The two front wheels sit within the body whilst the two rear wheels are mounted externally within wheel fairings.

When it makes its world record attempt in South Africa, the car will be powered by both a jet engine and a rocket, together producing more than 135,000 horsepower - six times the power of all the Formula 1 cars on a starting grid put together.

Tristan added: "We wish the Bloodhound SSC team the best of luck for their UK testing and for the actual land speed record attempt, which is planned for next year."
