Arts Education is a Right, Not a Privilege!
Theatre Workout champions the benefits drama training and supports disadvantaged students.
Theatre Workout is launching an exciting new drama training programme, Theatre Workout Academy, with plans to provide professional standard drama school training and establish a support fund to subsidise training for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, creating over £90,000 of grants by 2019!
Theatre Workout and Theatre Workout Academy founder, Adam Milford, said "getting involved with drama at the age of 16 changed my life and I have never looked back. It made me more confident, creative and able to take on life's challenges". 22 years later, Adam runs one of the largest producers of drama training in London, creating programmes for groups visiting West End theatres, and working with over 8,000 students a year from all over the world.
Theatre Workout Academy is Theatre Workout's only programme for individuals and plans to eventually run short courses, workshops and holiday programmes throughout the year, providing specialist training in all aspects of theatre and performance to students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
"Our courses will be open to anyone who wants to benefit from everything drama has to offer", said Adam. "Drama boosts confidence, inspires creativity and imagination, and helps develop strong communication skills, teamwork and leadership".
Despite the extensive benefits to the UK culture, society and economy, arts and arts education budgets have been cut repeatedly by successive governments, as highlighted by the Warwick Commission Report. As a result, fewer people have access to a decent arts education, thus widening the class and social divide and creating new barriers to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Theatre Workout Academy courses will be open to all, with a support fund to subsidise training for talented students from poorer backgrounds. With a commitment to invest from a new crowdfunding campaign and from course profits, Theatre Workout Academy plans to generate over £90,000 of grants and subsidies by 2019.
Courses will start in August 2016 with three, week-long summer school courses for up to 150 students a week, who will train in all aspects of acting and musical theatre and rehearse material to perform in a West End theatre on their final day.
Additional courses on all forms of theatre and performance are planned through to 2019.
Theatre Workout is launching a crowdfunding campaign on 5th October with Phundee to raise £70,000 to launch Theatre Workout Academy and start its support fund.
