Stockbridge Technology Centre Director appointed Vice President of the Royal Entomological Society
Directors and staff at a North Yorkshire research and technology organisation are celebrating after one of its directors was appointed Vice President of the Royal Entomological Society.
Dr David George, Director of Entomology and Sustainable Agriculture at Selby based Stockbridge Technology Centre, has been awarded the role for the 2015/2016 presidential term.
Dr George is a Fellow, Trustee and Hon. Reg. Sec. of the Royal Entomological Society and also co-edits the Society's members' bulletin, Antenna. He has been involved in collaborative research both in the UK and overseas and has published over 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals. His role at Stockbridge Technology Centre includes liaison with collaborative partners, growers, funders and consultants.
Earlier this year, Dr George was awarded The Marsh Award for Early Career Entomologist for his contribution to entomological science, primarily made in the fields of veterinary and agricultural pest management, and promotion of beneficial insects on farmland. The award is made by The Royal Entomological Societyand recognises an individual who has made an outstanding or exemplary early career contribution to Entomological Science.
Stockbridge Technology Centre's Director of Science, Dr Martin McPherson said: "David is a well-respected scientist and a passionate promoter of insect science. This appointment is thoroughly well deserved and comes off the back of the Marsh award earlier this year."
Dr George is part of a team of 14 scientists working on commercial, applied research, environmental and education projects at the 200 acre farm based site.
Stockbridge Technology Centre is an independent, not for profit organisation that is wholly owned by the UK horticultural industry and is a centre of excellence in technology transfer to agriculture and horticulture.
The Royal Entomological Society was founded in 1833 as the Entomological Society of London and toimprove and disseminate knowledge of and about insect science.
