GLENTURRET DISTILLERY INVITES PUBLIC TO WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT TO MARK 240 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Glenturret Distillery, Scotland’s oldest working distillery, is inviting members of the public to ‘raise a dram’ to celebrate 240 years of making whisky By Hand and By Heart in the first ever World Record setting attempt to bring together the largest number of people simultaneously raising a traditional Scottish dram.
The Crieff-based visitor attraction is hoping that at least 240 people will visit the distillery at 5pm on Thursday 5th November, 2015 to help set the dramatic record and celebrate the distillery’s 240 years with a warming measure of The Glenturret Single Malt.
The World Record attempt and toast to The Glenturret’s heritage will be followed by a giant selfie to mark the special occasion and bring a splash of the modern-day to proceedings. Members of the public can sign up to take part by visiting www.theglenturret.com and visiting the page dedicated to Celebrating 240 Years.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the distillery will throw open their doors to the public with free-of-charge walk-through distillery tours, pop-up catering from the award winning Wilde Thyme at Glenturret and an opportunity to browse the gift shop, full of distillery exclusives – perfect for some early Christmas shopping.
Producing whisky the traditional way since opening its doors as a single malt distillery in 1775, today The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery is the most visited distillery in Scotland welcoming over tens of thousands of visitors annually.
Stuart Cassells, General Manager at The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery, is looking forward to marking the special anniversary by adding another story to the distillery’s long and rich history. He said:
“We have been producing exceptional whisky on this site, at what is now Glenturret Distillery, for over two centuries and we are unique in that we are now Scotland’s only remaining producer of hand mashed whisky. We are very proud of our heritage and that we are able to keep these artisan processes alive in the 21st century, 240 years after the first whisky was distilled right here, in Crieff.
“Our ‘raise a dram’ world record attempt is, we think, a fitting way to mark 240 years of Glenturret Distillery standing alongside members of the public and whisky lovers from the area. If you’d like a warm welcome, a delicious dram and to be part of Glenturret Distillery’s long history then please come along at 5pm on Thursday 5th November. It would be fantastic if we could gather 240 people, one person for every year Glenturret Distillery has existed.”
