Harper Collins double-book deal author retains LitPR to support the launch of her third book, #PleaseRetweet, out November 2015
Monday 19thOctober 2015, Kent, United Kingdom: Literally PR Ltd has beencommissioned to support the release of #PleaseRetweet, a contemporary rom-com novel from Harper Collins that is certainly more likely to be read on a smartphone than ordered from the local library...
Enigmatic social media speaker, published novelist and online success story, Emily Benet is the author of Shop Girl Diaries and The Temp, and is due to release her third book - #PleaseRetweet - on November 5 2015.
Emily is a half-Welsh, half-Spanish Londoner, who recently escaped to Mallorca with her husband. Her first book - Shop Girl Diaries - began as a blog before being picked up by Salt Publishing and later became a short film. Her second, Spray Painted Bananas, attracted more than 2 million views on Wattpad as a serialised novel, and was picked up by Harper Collins and published as The Temp. #PleaseRetweet is the eagerly anticipated romantic comedy, which teases our obsession with celebrity and social media culture.
The protagonist of #PleaseRetweet is May Sparks; a spectacular social media specialist who has just secured a cushy job representing a couple of C-list celebs online. Everything is on the up...right? Her clients turn out to be less rising stars and more lead balloons. An ex big brother star (who she'sdefinitelynot goingto sleep with), a disgraced TV presenter (who wants May to sort out his marriage as well as his Twitter account), and a woman who once flashed her boobs on X-factor, mean her star-making job might be a bit trickier than she'd hoped. As May's virtual life expands and evolves her real life starts to suffer, as she becomes more and more alienated, which only gets worse when her online identity is leaked.
#PleaseRetweetis a rom-com (with more focus on the com than the rom) written by a lady who knows social media like the back of her hand. Described as "a funny and frantic cautionary tale for the digital generation",#PleaseRetweetteases society's obsession with social media, highlighting the gap between our real life and the one we portray online...
Despite the fact Emily has forged a career from her social media successes, she advocates a social media detox on a regular basis. Emily says:"I think our priority should be enjoying the moment fully, rather than sharing the moment on Twitter to prove we're enjoying it. Getting ‘likes' and ‘retweets' gives you a little high because it gives the impression people find you cool or funny or clever. But, the buzz doesn't last very long, so you keep posting to get the next little high. That's why social media is so addictive - and it can also be dangerous... "
