Council Tax Advisors CIC welcomes DCLG consultation
The news that the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is asking for views on improving council tax collection methods* comes not a moment too soon.
That’s the opinion of Chris Richards, whose business, Council Tax Advisors CIC, has helped over 35,000 people this year alone.
He says: “The number of people struggling with council tax arrears and other urgent debt is, to put it mildly, staggering. Nor is the problem limited to any particular region of the country. We’re finding that the three worst affected areas are Birmingham, Bristol and Wigan. We know that local authorities across the whole country face a major challenge.”
Council Tax Advisors CIC is already working with many of these authorities to help recoup outstanding debt, but Richards believes more can – and should - be done. “The current system is long overdue for a review. That’s why it’s great to see the DCLG inviting local authorities, other government departments and businesses to come forward with their ideas on this urgent issue. A positive outcome from this process will go a long way toward helping struggling families across the country.”
Council Tax Advisors CIC gives every client dedicated support. This includes a free consultation, ongoing advice and liaison with local authorities to find solutions agreeable to all parties. The company offers a comprehensive mediation service for all situations, no matter how complex. Council Tax Advisors CIC works quickly and seeks to suspend any enforcement action pending resolution.
Council Tax Advisors CIC also supports clients contemplating IVAs (individual voluntary agreements), DROs (debt relief orders) and bankruptcy. Its services are free of charge to the client.
As a community interest company (CIC), Council Tax Advisors CIC believes no individual should face financial difficulty alone.
Community interest companies are recognised by the government under the Companies (Audit, Investigations and Community Enterprise) Act 2004. They use their profits and assets for the public good and are regulated by the Office of the Regulator of CICs and the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.
