WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT IS A DRAM FINE IDEA FOR MISS WORLD CONTESTANT

Reigning Miss Scotland, Mhairi Fergusson, and a contender for the title of Miss World in China later this year, is getting behind Scotland’s attempt to set a new world record for the most people to simultaneously raise a traditional dram of whisky in a toast this coming week.

The world record attempt will take place on Thursday 5th November at 5pm at Glenturret Distillery, Scotland’s oldest working distillery, which is staging the attempt in order to celebrate 240 years of making whisky By Hand and By Heart.

Over 100 people have already signed up to take part and organisers are hopeful that the numbers will climb to a magical 240 people by the time it gets to Thursday to help set such a dramatic record and celebrate the distillery’s 240 years with a warming measure of The Glenturret Single Malt.

Mhairi Fergusson, 22 from Stirling, visited the distillery earlier this week as part of the filming for her promotional video of Scotland. The video will be broadcast at the 65th Miss World pageant in Sanya, China. Mhairi was so taken with the idea she vowed to return the following week to take part.

Mhairi commented:

“I truly loved visiting Glenturret Distillery and meeting the team behind one of Scotland’s finest malt whiskies. Whisky is such a big part of Scotland’s history and heritage. I think it would be great for Scotland to hold the world record for Raising a Dram and I’m really looking forward to being part of the fun on the evening and help claim that record.”

The World Record attempt and toast to The Glenturret’s heritage will be followed by a giant selfie to mark the special occasion and bring a splash of the modern-day to proceedings. The distillery are asking members of the public to sign up in advance, which will assist them with the official submission of evidence to Guinness World Records, by logging on to www.theglenturret.com and visiting the page dedicated to Celebrating 240 Years.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the distillery will also throw open their doors that evening to the public with complimentary walk-through distillery tours, pop-up catering from the award winning Wilde Thyme at Glenturret and an opportunity to browse the gift shop, full of distillery exclusives – perfect for some early Christmas shopping.

Producing whisky the traditional way since opening its doors as a single malt distillery in 1775, today The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery is the most visited distillery in Scotland welcoming over tens of thousands of visitors annually.

Stuart Cassells, General Manager at The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery, is looking forward to marking the special anniversary with a third world record. He said:

“Our ‘raise a dram’ world record attempt is the perfect way to mark 240 years of Glenturret Distillery, standing alongside members of the public and whisky lovers from the area. We’ve been raising a dram here on this site for 240 years which is incredible. And, as we are now well into our third century of operations, it seems to make sense that we also have three world records to our name.

“So, if you’d like a warm welcome, a delicious dram and to be part of Glenturret Distillery’s history then please come along at 5pm on Thursday 5th November. It would be fantastic if we could gather 240 people, one person for every year Glenturret Distillery has existed.”
