Fundraising Premiere for Scottish Skier

Fundraising Premiere for Scottish Skier

Perthshire skier, Charlie Guest, one of Team GB’s most promising Alpine prospects for the next Winter Olympics, hopes that the Scottish premiere of new winter movie Chasing Shadows, held on 15th November at Spey Valley Cinema in Aviemore, will help raise vital funds to enable her to keep chasing the dream of becoming World Number 1.

The premiere will be a much needed fundraiser for Charlie’s pre-season training, which comes almost a year to the day that a near career ending crash in Sweden last November left Charlie with four broken vertebrae. In true fighting spirit, she battled back to fitness very quickly and was back on the slopes just one month after her accident. She went on to compete at her debut World Championships 11 weeks later, where she finished an impressive 32nd in the Slalom. For Charlie, the dream of being able to compete in the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022 and bringing home a Gold medal is just within touching distance.

First taking to a pair of skis when she was just three years old in Nethy Bridge, Charlie’s love of the snow was obvious and at 14 she became the first British Girl to win an international children’s race after making the British Children’s team. Since then, she has risen through the ranks to establish herself as one of the best ranked Ski Racers in Britain.

Speaking of her determination to chase her own shadow, Charlie said:

“When you work for something day in, day out, you go out there and you give it your all, no matter what. I have done exactly that for the last 5 years, and will continue to do so until I achieve what I have set out to do. I have dreamt about this my whole life and we are getting very close to the target. With a little extra support, I know that we can get there! One of the biggest hurdles I have to overcome (besides injury) is financial and all proceeds from this Premiere in Aviemore will go directly into my pre-season training."

She continued:

“It’s great being able to hold fundraisers like this. Warren Miller never disappoints and Chasing Shadows is all about what it means to be inspired by the snow! Winter sports are sports like no other and the sense of freedom I have whilst skiing, especially whilst competing, is totally unrivalled in any other part of my life and this film gives you just that. It showcases our love for the outdoors and most importantly our love of snow. It really is time to get completely excited about winter!"

Warren Miller’s 66th film Chasing Shadows explores the world of snow-sports. Filling the big screen with high definition ski and snowboard action, it guarantees some early season winter excitement from a whole host of wintery locations and snow-covered summits, including the Himalayas.

Charlie wants as many people to come along to the Premiere, marvel in the magic of winter and become part of Team Guest, so that you too can share in the success that she endeavours to bring home to you all over the coming winter seasons.

The premiere takes place at Spey Valley Cinema at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort on Sunday 15th November at 7pm. For more information and tickets visit www.charlieguest.com
