Lose the ‘salesy’ tag, says Sasudi.com’s Leigh Ashton
Sales, in the UK, is perceived as distasteful. This is despite 80 per cent of us in the UK work in jobs that involve selling in some way.
This was a big theme in a recent Business Connection Live interview with Leigh Ashton, co-founder of the online sales support platform, Sasudi.com. Leigh was discussing the importance of improving people’s perception of sales as a profession.
Teaching, preaching, customer service – indeed any job that requires us to influence decisions or change behaviour – are sales jobs, Leigh believes.
She says: “We need to embrace sales. It’s an act of love and care, because you’re trying to resolve a problem for the customer.”
Leigh explains that an effective sales process begins by establishing rapport. “Asking your potential customer open questions is the best way to establish if, and how, you can help them,” she says. “That way, customers become receptive to your offering, rather than feel sold to. How often have you wanted to get out of a situation because a salesperson is trying to push something you don’t want onto you?”
