MAB Swindon on discrimination against female borrowers

Swindon mortgage broker provides antidote to widespread discrimination against female borrowers

A leading Swindon mortgage provider has expressed surprise at research findings revealing widespread discrimination against women who apply for mortgages.

Jeremy Morcumb, owner of Mortgage Advice Bureau Swindon, the independent mortgage advice, was speaking about research recently published by the Telegraph.*

The research found that:

One in 10 women aged 25-45 had faced "mortgage discrimination" because banks and building societies presumed they would struggle with repayments due to taking time out of work or extra childcare costs. One in four told comparison website uSwitch they had “intentionally hidden family plans.”

Morcumb said: “These statistics show how frustrating a process it can be if you are a woman searching for a mortgage to buy a home. At Mortgage Advice Bureau Swindon, we treat every customer as an individual and base our advice solely on an applicant’s financial background, not lifestyle choices. In many cases it’s just a question of finding the right mortgage lender for your individual circumstances. We search the whole of the market to find the mortgage that’s right for you.”

Mortgage Advice Bureau has over 700 advisers across the UK and arranges around £8 billion of mortgages annually through more than 80 UK lenders.

Mortgage Advice Bureau has won at the British Mortgage Awards five years in a row and the Money Marketing Financial Services Award for Best Mortgage Adviser three years in a row. In total, the business has won more than 50 awards in the last five years.
