CHOC Chick’s Galia Orme elected as RSA Fellow

Galia Orme, founder of the raw chocolate making kits business, CHOC Chick, has been elected as a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce).

The Fellowship gives Galia a high profile platform to promote fair trade and the benefits of working with growers of organic food ingredients. As a producer of chocolate products free from dairy, gluten, processed sugar and additives, Galia sources raw ingredients directly from farmers and cooperatives in Ecuador, who she visited in 2011.

RSA Fellows share their ideas, research and networks to help societies flourish and create opportunities for people to lead fulfilling lives.

Initially set up as an online store in 2009, CHOC Chick was in John Lewis Food Halls by 2010. That year also saw four distributors supply CHOC Chick products to over 200 stores across the UK and Europe. These include Holland & Barrett, Whole Foods Market UK, Harvey Nichols, Infinity Foods and Magasin Du Nord in Copenhagen.

Today, CHOC Chick products are in 200 Holland & Barrett stores and have been the retailer’s online bestseller since March 2015. CHOC Chick's Starter and CHOC Chicos Kits are now also available in the US, at Wholefoods Market North Atlantic in 30 stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine.

Speaking about the announcement, Galia said: “Being elected an RSA Fellow is an amazing honour for me. The Society is known globally for its contribution to the arts, manufacturing and commerce. As well as increasing the awareness of how sound ethics and healthy products can form the foundation for growth and profitability, this opportunity presents a fantastic chance to empower women to take a massive step and launch their own business.”

Fellows of the RSA include social entrepreneurs, scientists, community leaders, commercial innovators, artists, journalists, architects and engineers. Distinguished past and present fellows are Charles Dickens, Benjamin Franklin, Karl Marx and Professor Stephen Hawking.

The RSA Fellowship is an international community of over 27,000 achievers and influencers. For more information, visit, www.theRSA.org.
