Street cleansing teams will be sweeping the leaves from the city's streets from Monday (October 9th) onwards.
The teams target areas of the highest footfall and leaf fall in each ward once a fortnight and will prioritise ‘hotspot' areas which are at risk from flooding.
The majority of leaves fall from trees during November but the dedicated team will work from October 9thuntil the end of December.
As part of this scheme, certain streets will be part of a tidal parking programme, where the Council asks residents not to park on the street on a designated day to enable highways and cleansing teams to clear the streets.
Cllr Michael Michael, Cabinet Member for Clean Streets and Recycling has endorsed the scheme and is asking residents that live on roads which require this service to move their vehicles before their designated leaf clearance day.
Cllr Michael said: "In certain streets in Canton, Riverside, Grangetown, Heath, Plasnewydd and Cathays, we need people to move their vehicles from their street so we can sweep the leaves. Advance notice will be given to all residents affected. At the same time officers from our drainage department will be working in partnership with the cleansing crews to ensure all drains are cleared. At the end of the day, if the cars aren't moved, we can't clear the leaves or the drains.
"As part of the Love Where You Live Campaign - I have been very impressed with the community spirit of residents that are working with the council to help us keep their communities clean and tidy. Last Saturday, in Oakfield Street in Plasnewydd, twenty four residents helped to clear away over 70 bags of leaves.

In terms of the blitz operations, from October 9th, teams will be attending to streets in Rhiwbina; Cathays; Llanishen; Lisvane; Gabalfa; Pentwyn, Whitchurch; Tongwynlais; Fairwater; Creigiau & St Fagans; Gwaelod Y Garth; Pentyrch, Radyr and Canton.
The following week from October 16th, parts of the Heath; Plasnewydd; Splott; Adamsdown; Cyncoed; Penylan; Ely, Caerau, Llandaff, Llandaff North, Riverside and Grangetown will be cleared. This schedule will then be repeated on a fortnightly basis.
In addition to the leaf fall blitz team and normal cleansing operations, there will also be a High Speed Route Team which will attend certain areas of the city which are prone to flooding.
